Iwi Grants & Scholarships

Ngāti Toa Grants

Ngāti Toa provides Sports and Education Grants to registered Ngāti Toa iwi members to provide support in our member's sports and educational aspirations.  

Our grants are subject to funding rounds and are only available to registered Ngāti Toa iwi members. 

Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira will actively promote the opportunity to apply for grants using our communications channels. All applications must provide all requested information to enable our funding committees to make accurate assessments.

Please submit your grant application within the specified timeframe and by the due date. Late applications are unable to be considered.

Education Grants

Education Grants are now closed.

Sports Grants

Sports grants are available to Ngāti Toa members and recognized Toa sports clubs to encourage Ngāti Toa participation and achievement in sports. Completed applications must be received at least one month before the event starts

Please note: We are unable to process any further applications for the following:

1. NZ Māori Golf Tournament, Taupo, January 2025

2. NZ Māori Basketball, Rotorua, January 2025

3. Waka Ama, Lake Karapiro, January 2025

Youth Educational Activities Grant

Youth Educational Activities Grants are made available to Ngāti Toa rangatahi pursuing youth educational activities. This includes year 9 to year 13.

Youth Development Sports Grant

Youth Development Sports Grants are available each year to support the aspirations of Ngāti Toa rangatahi who have achieved recognition for their chosen sport code and are working towards NZ representation or another country national representation or international achievement.

Teaching Scholarship

The purpose of this teaching scholarship is to support Māori into teaching career.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • Be a registered iwi member of Ngāti Toa

  • Be enrolled in Initial teacher education training (Bachelor's degree, Postgraduate Diploma or above)

Note: If you have completed the Initial Teacher Education Training or are a registered teacher, you are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
